Kaziranga occupies a very important place in the world wildlife map as the place which has the highest population of The Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros. Other pockets where one can find small pockets of rhino population are Manas National Park ( Assam ) Dudhwa National Park ( Uttar Pradesh), Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary ( West Bengal ).

The rhinos overshadow the other big game in the park - The Royal Bengal Tiger, Elephants , Wild Buffaloes. Kaziranga has the highest Density of Tigers anywhere in India at 16.8 tigers per 100 sq kilometers far above the normal average of 12.1 per 100 sq kms in most national Parks.

Wildlife spotting is relatively easy in Kaziranga owing to the vast grasslands which look very similar to the African Savannah.

How to reach Kaziranga National Park

The closest airport to Kaziranga is the Rowriah Airport in Jorhat at a distance of 96 km. Jet Airways fly to Kolkata, Guwahati and Bangalore. The next closest airport is the Lokpriya Gopinath.


Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati at a distance of 225 kms. From there Cabs can be taken to The Kaziranga National Park.
